What is RSD : For short its RSD meaning Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy RSD is a pain syndrome cause by a dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system also known as  Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, itthat can follow a simple trauma (fall or sprain)  a break or fracture (especially wrist and ankle) a sharp force injury.

It is a multi-symptom condition affecting one, two, or sometimes even all four of the extremities, It may spread from one part of the body to another regardless of where the original injury occurred; and RSD can spread to other parts of the body.

RSDS Symptoms

1. chronic burning pain

2. Extreme sensitivity to touch

3. Spasms-in blood vessels and muscles of the extremities

4. Insomnia/Emotional Disturbance

Other Possible Symptoms

• Color/Skin Changes --- Skin may turn shiny, red, dry and tightened; increased sweating,  temperature

• Movement Disorders --- difficulty in beginning movement of the injured part or moving it in general.
• Sleep Patterns --- Insomnia is often seen, also disrupted sleep pattern.

Three Stages of RSDS

1. Acute : burning pain swelling, increased sensitivity to touch increased hair and nail growth in the affected region, joint pain, color and temperature changes: the first 3 months 
2. Dystrophic: constant pain and swelling, limb feels cool and looks bluish, muscle stiffness and atrophy (wasting away of the muscle) early osteoporosis (bone loss) 3 to 6 months 
3. Atrophic: cool and shiny skin, increased muscle stiffness and weakness, symptoms may spread to other limb
